Special Olympics State Basketball Tournament comes to Auburn this week

AUBURN, Ala. — Special Olympics will welcome athletes, coaches, families, and supporters from across the state as the 2026 State of Alabama Basketball Tournament tips off in Auburn this week. More than 22 teams and nearly 300 athletes and coaches will participate in two days of competition, community, and celebration.
Divisioning will take place Thursday, March 5, from 12:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. at the Wire Road Soccer Complex (WSC). Opening Ceremonies will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the Frank Brown Recreation Center (FBRC).
Special guests currently scheduled to attend include representatives from Auburn University Football’s player development and recruiting staff, Aubie, and Mayor Ron Anders.
Following Opening Ceremonies and dinner, athletes and coaches are invited to enjoy a celebratory dance featuring DJ Jason Flowers of Established Entertainment LLC.
Tournament games will be held Friday, March 6, at Boykin Community Center, FBRC, WSC, and Lake Wilmore Park Recreation Center. Teams will compete throughout the day as they pursue division titles and enjoy the spirit of sportsmanship that defines Special Olympics.
